TAG Heuer Prices

How much does a TAG Heuer wristwatch cost?

The cost of TAG Heuer watches varies depending on the model and year of production – with quartz watches, such as the Formula 1, being the cheapest models and available for a few hundred Euros. The grandiose Aquaracer diver’s watch in the quartz version is the next highest category at around €500 and is available from around €950 for the automatic version.

For a TAG Heuer Carrera, you can spend from around €1,000 to over €60,000 if you fancy a chronograph with a diamond-set bezel. Or would you prefer the Autavia from TAG Heuer? Here, you can get your hands on one from €2,000, while the vintage-inspired wristwatches (which also put a smile on the faces of jewellers), are available from around €4,000.

The iconic Monaco watch, which already caused a stir on Steve McQueen’s wrist and found worldwide fame on the racetrack, is available in the three-hand version for around €1,300. The chronograph model starts at around €2,100 and special editions, which are not only very popular with collectors, are much more expensive. The top model is the Monaco V4, for which you should have around €60,000 ready in your bank account for the platinum version.

How much is the most expensive TAG Heuer watch?

How much do luxury watches from TAG Heuer cost?

The most legendary TAG Heuer wristwatch to date reached the record sum of $2,208,000 at an exclusive auction in New York. The value of this top-class collector’s price was no coincidence, as it was the Monaco wristwatch worn by Steve McQueen in the 1973 film Le Mans. The opening bid for the automatic watch was $200,000. Otherwise, the diamond-set luxury watches cause a sensation and are among the most expensive models from TAG Heuer.

At its premiere in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco model was considered ground-breaking, as it was the first square, waterproof (Piquerez watch case) automatic chronograph wristwatch with a calibre 11 movement. It was also identified by an oscillating micro-rotor mass and characterised by the unusual placement of the crown at the time (on the left side of the watch case).

It is foreseeable that the demand for TAG Heuer models will increase in the future. At Montredo, you can buy the most popular models at the very best price – of course with the full manufacturer’s guarantee, free shipping and a 60-day return policy. Express delivery is also available.

Who wears TAG Heuer?

TAG Heuer is a Swiss watch brand for everyone, whether sportsman, racing fan or “Office-Desk Hero”. The stylish luxury watches are sporty and elegant and can therefore be worn for all occasions. There also exists famous models, such as the much-discussed Monaco by Steve McQueen. Leonardo DiCaprio also wears a luxury wristwatch from TAG Heuer in the famous Hollywood film The Wolf of Wall Street. TAG Heuer was a pioneer in collaborating with celebrities at a time when sports sponsorship was still in its infancy. Famous Formula 1 drivers such as Niki Lauda, Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, Jo Siffert and many others wore the functional TAG Heuer timepieces.

Why TAG Heuer?

Why should you buy a TAG Heuer watch?

TAG Heuer has left its mark on the history of the watch industry because the traditional Swiss company from St. Imier played a key role in the development and creation of chronographs. The TAG Heuer brand is therefore one of the most legendary watch brands in the world. Not least because it focussed on practical features and robustness. For example, the TAG Heuer Carrera, the model series designed by Jack Heuer, is named after the famous Carrera Panamericana Rally, which was considered one of the most dangerous events of its kind in the 1950s. Thus, the unusual watch brand is still very closely associated with motor racing and the racetracks of this world today. You can go so far: It is virtually impossible to imagine racing circuits and motorsport without it. This glorious history characterises the sentimental value of the watches. Watchmakers also talk about the innovations associated with TAG Heuer. This is how you acquire a piece of “legend” for your wrist.

How do you wind a TAG Heuer wristwatch correctly?

How often should you wind a TAG Heuer watch? It is important to keep your mechanical watch running at all times. As long as you wear it, the hairspring maintains tension thanks to the oscillating weight of the movement, which vibrates with every movement. Most TAG Heuer watches run for 40 to 50 hours. When the watch has stopped, turn the crown clockwise about 30 to 40 times or until the second hand starts to move. The best time to do this is when the watch is not on your wrist – be careful never to pull the crown all the way out and never to over-tighten it.

TAG Heuer Collections for Men and Women

What current TAG Heuer models are available and can TAG Heuer compete with Rolex and Omega?

What are the names of the TAG Heuer collections?

1. TAG Heuer Carrera

The grandiose Carrera is the second legendary chronograph series alongside the popular Monaco, which is also reflected in the current collection. Compared to its square contemporary and the elliptical Autavia, the look is less brute, making it not only a pure sports model, but also a suit-appropriate dress watch. Under the name Carrera, Montredo’s current collection also includes numerous three-hand watches without a stopwatch function, whose sporty face nevertheless makes it clear that they are all about racing.

2. TAG Heuer Aquaracer

TAG Heuer has a well-developed expertise in the manufacture of robust, durable sports watches, which the Aquaracer is intended to bring to the attention of water and diving enthusiasts. However, diving watches are by no means new territory for TAG Heuer from the recent past. The Swiss manufacturer from St. Imier has a tradition of producing waterproof watches that goes back to the late 19th century. Back then, water-resistant pocket watches were already being manufactured and prioritised long before Rolex finally launched the first water-resistant wristwatch on the market. If you take a look at the current Aquaracer collection, it becomes clear that the design of today’s timepieces is in the tradition of their renowned counterparts from the Omega and Rolex universe.

3. TAG Heuer Formula 1

Whatever the occasion, the Formula 1 wristwatch is also inspired by motor racing and is the only series to feature a coloured logo. The timepiece is simultaneously sporty, urban and robust. Special processes make it extremely shock-resistant and robust. The Formula 1 TAG Heuer is also available as a sporty and elegant ladies’ watch.

4. TAG Heuer Monaco

Testosterone-rich and sharp-edged like the rear of the Porsche 917, the Monaco achieved cult status in the film Le Mans. The chronograph was already an eye-catcher when it was launched in 1969 and quickly became a legend. Today, the Monaco is an absolute icon – not least due to the symbolism of racing and its personification by Steve McQueen – and is perfect for any wearer who is as edgy as the watch itself.

5. TAG Heuer Autavia

Inspired by history and interpreted in a modern way, the Autavia collection offers wearable wristwatches with a sporty touch that are up to any adventure. Its name is a combination of automobile and aviation, as it goes back to the first on-board instruments of aeroplanes and motor sports. With its easy-to-read dial, rotating bezel and bold case design, the Autavia is an icon of the TAG Heuer brand and a true collector’s item that will delight more than just watchmakers.

6. TAG Heuer Link

The only collection that started with the bracelet is the TAG Heuer Link for men and women. With their sleek S-shape, the watch models nestle perfectly on the wrist and are an expressive timepiece for both men and women.

History

With the introduction of the Calibre 11 and the invention of the oscillating pinion, TAG Heuer played a key role in the development of the modern chronograph. And where stopped times are concerned, motorsport cannot be far away: Today, as ever, the extraordinary watch brand is synonymous with racing and daredevilry paired with a pinch of nostalgia. In the 70s and 80s, the golden era of Formula 1, almost all racing drivers and brand ambassadors proudly displayed their Carreras, Monacos, Silverstones and Autavias on the racetrack – from Gilles Villeneuve to Ayrton Senna and Niki Lauda. Today, however, TAG Heuer is primarily associated with Steve McQueen: in the iconic film Le Mans, his Monaco watch model is staged time and time again – a passionate screen appearance that has helped the stylish square sports watch achieve icon status, especially in the version with a dark blue dial. A further development of the luxury brand that signalled an enormous milestone for the brand.

What has changed in the meantime? Not much, except that the celebrity ambassadors are now Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkönen. Since 2015, the TAG Heuer Monaco Steve McQueen has once again been equipped with the famous, extraordinary Calibre 11. This means that the men’s watch is now even closer to the original, which conjures up a sentimental sparkle in the eyes of collectors, dawdlers and racing nostalgia fanatics, and not just with its watch design.

TAG Heuer in Five Numbers

0.0005: LIKE FIVE TEN-THOUSANDTHS OF A SECOND

In 2012, the luxury watch brand TAG Heuer passionately presented the Carrera Mikrogirder, the world’s most accurate mechanical watch. It is capable of displaying time intervals in the range of up to 5/10,000ths of a second. The most accurate electromagnetic stopwatch is even more precise: used for the first time in 2004 at the Indy 500 race, it decided victory or defeat in 2006 by exactly two ten-thousandths of a second. By comparison, a mechanical watch model with today’s standard balance frequency of 28,800 semi-oscillations only measures to the nearest eighth of a second.

3: LIKE THREE CIRCUMNAVIGATIONS OF THE EARTH

The Heuer stopwatch on the arm of American astronaut John Glenn orbited the globe 3 times. The stopwatch not only became the first wristwatch to orbit the earth, but also the first Swiss watch in space.

8: HOW OVER A PERIOD OF EIGHT YEARS

From 1920 to 1928, timekeeping at the Olympic Games was carried out by TAG Heuer’s split-seconds pocket chronographs. They were the official timekeeper at three Olympic Games before Omega became a serial participant at the Olympics.

4: LIKE AN ALLIANCE OF FOUR MANUFACTURERS

The Calibre 11 was one of the first three automatic chronograph movements (alongside the Zenith El Primero and the Seiko 6139) to be developed in an alliance between the brands TAG Heuer, Breitling, Buren and Dubois-Dépraz. Special features of the calibre are the crown on the left-hand side of the case and the decentralised micro-rotor.

2: LIKE TWO GEARS

In 1887, Edouard Heuer developed the oscillating pinion, which significantly simplified the manufacture of chronographs and thus significantly advanced the series production of modern chronographs that is common today. The oscillating drive can be imagined as a kind of clutch that allows the gear train to move either with the stop time or with the running seconds.

TAG Heuer Over Time

What is TAG Heuer’s history?

1860: Heuer is founded in St. Imier by Edouard Heuer.

1882: Heuer patents his first stopwatch mechanism.

1887: Five years after patenting Heuer’s first stopwatch mechanism, a milestone in the development of the modern chronograph follows with the invention of the oscillating pinion – a step forward for watchmakers.

1964: Following a merger with Leonidas, Heuer-Leonidas watch manufacture is created.

1969: The luxury watch Heuer Autavia is presented.

1969: Calibre 11 is launched as one of the first 3 automatic chronograph movements developed in a merger of the Heuer, Breitling and Dubois-Depraz brands.

1976: The Heuer Monza is launched following Niki Lauda’s Formula 1 World Championship title in 1975 and achieves iconic status.

1983: TAG Heuer presents the world’s first quartz chronograph.

1985: Heuer-Leonidas merges with TAG (Techniques d’Avant Garde) and founds the company TAG Heuer.

2010: Calibre 11 experiences a brilliant renaissance. From this point on, TAG Heuer focuses more on its heritage and revives several classic timepieces. The use of the Heuer name bears witness to this pre-TAG Heuer sentimentality.

2015: TAG Heuer launches the first Swiss luxury smartwatch with the newly introduced CONNECTED line.

2019: The luxurious Monaco collection celebrates its 50th birthday.

2020: To mark the 160th anniversary of TAG Heuer, a series of limited edition timepieces in the popular Carrera collection are launched.

2021: The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Night Diver tool watch is launched. During the day, the dial (made from opaline) is white; at night, it glows completely and is just as easy to read as during the day.

2022: In cooperation with Porsche, TAG Heuer launches a limited edition to mark the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

2022: In the film “The Gray Man”, Lead actor Ryan Gosling wears a TAG Heuer Carrera.

2023: The new TAG Heuer Carrera “Glassbox” in 39mm is introduced.
